In addition to these weekly classes, our Lake Mary location will also offer the same great music lessons, after school programs, tutoring, camps, Parents Night Out and other events you love from the Winter Springs SPARK!

Math in Motion with Ms. Erin
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. for Grades 1-4
These fast-paced and exciting weekly workshops are perfect for homeschooled students needing to master the basics while remaining motivated to learn. Multiplication mastery, fractions, place value and decimals are just a few of the topics that will be reviewed in this class. Using a variety of hands-on methodologies like games and class challenges, students will learn and review the basics in a lively setting.
Living Espanol with Ms.Cristina
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for Grades 1-5
Your homeschooler will love learning the Spanish language! Learning a second language during elementary years improves reading skills, English comprehension and math standardized test scores. While learning a second language, the child improves understanding of their native language because they are connecting and comparing the languages. Students also develop stronger problem-solving skills, become more creative and gain an understanding of a different culture.

Intro to Theatre: Twisted Tales with Ms. Kristie

Every kid knows how fairy tales work. The handsome prince saves the beautiful princess and they live happily ever after, right? Well, not in the land of Twisted Tales! This place is full of wild imagination and fun hands on games. These explorers will help create the characters and the stories from their imaginations and then bring them to life using the magical prop bag. Climb aboard this train for a “fantastical” adventure.

Spark! Your Magic School Bus Ride with Ms. Karyn
9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. for Grades 1-5
Fasten your seat belts for an exciting adventure based on the Magic School Bus series. Students will be energized by the eccentric Ms. Frizzle and her inquisitive students. Skills addressed in this class include listening comprehension, summarization and note-taking. But, don’t worry, the “field trip” doesn’t stop there! Students will get messy with hands-on science activities, such as operating a homemade water wheel, creating a cloud in a bowl, dissecting cookie “rocks,” bending a stream of light, completing an electrical circuit and more. This is a ride your child won’t want to miss!
Five in a Row with Ideas to Go with Ms. Karyn
10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for Grades 1-5
Based on the time-honored Five in a Row curriculum, this class will invite students to take an active, engaging journey beyond the cover, deep into the heart of literature. Highly-esteemed picture books will provide a springboard into explorations of art, social studies, science, math and writing. Writing, specifically, will be integrated into every class to provide students with opportunities to develop essential writing skills. Students will learn to identify positive character traits, think critically about the stories they hear and ultimately grow their appreciation of literature. Look for ideas and resources each week after class so you can continue to enrich your child at home with this amazing curriculum.

Elements of Writing with Ms. Karen
12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. for Grades 4-8
Following Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) guidelines, this course introduces writers of all levels to the structure and style of writing. Students will grow in writing confidence and ability as they develop the core strategies of note-making, outlining, and summarizing. They will develop in writing maturity as they learn to enhance their prose with stylistic techniques, and they will increase in writing versatility by practicing various forms of writing such as narrative summaries, reports and essays. Students will receive individualized feedback on submitted work and will be challenged to produce their personal best.

Children will be introduced to basic skills and a mix of media with typical projects, and materials will include sketching in pencil and charcoal, chalk and oil pastel work, watercolor painting and clay exploration. Art 101 for Credit* with Ms. Fabiola
1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for Grades 8-12
Students participating in Art 101, taught by Fabiola Hansen, will receive a comprehensive and enthralling basic art course. Designed for one high school art credit, this class will span the 2012-2013 school year. As a certified teacher and expert art instructor, Ms. Fabiola will be requiring homework from students in order for them to earn a high school credit. Objectives, credit specifications and guidelines will be presented at the first class, which will be September 4, 2012. Space is limited in order to ensure ample time and effective instruction for each student.
* Classes will run 16 weeks in the Fall, 9/6-12/20, and 20 weeks in the Winter/Spring, 1/3-5/29.

Enrich your preschooler with our hands-on, activity-filled preschool enrichment program. This hands-on program will include Spanish, Art and Music. The Preschool Enrichment Program at Spark! is a great way to encourage your child to glean knowledge of a second language, inspire them creatively, and offer them an opportunity for independence. Parents are welcome to drop their child off or wait in our Parents’ Lounge. The limit for this class is 8 students, and all children must be potty trained.
After School Homework Lab

What Grows Where is a geography/map-skills class for youngsters, designed to teach them the components and functions of all types of maps, helping them see the wonder of our natural world and gain a context of the geography around us and on our planet.
